You will also benefit from value-for-money OP bonuses. You will earn them through your transactions and they can cover, for example, your banking service charges or insurance premiums that may cost nothing to you, thanks to OP bonuses.

Influence in the owner-customer community

Do you have thoughts and ideas on how to develop the activities of your OP cooperative bank? The owner-customer community is a new channel for making an impact, where you can effortlessly have your say on your bank’s activities as a cooperative member.

In the community you can complete surveys, discuss and give ideas for improvement or, say, propose charity causes for your bank. It is easy to participate and you can join the community online by registering yourself as its member. At a later stage, your bank will invite you to have your say a few times a year.

 

As an owner-customer, you are part of a cooperative bank

As an owner-customer you own part of a Finnish cooperative bank with roots in cooperative business. In addition to benefiting from your bank’s success, as an owner-customer you can have a say on your bank’s activities.

OP cooperative banks create sustainable financial prosperity, security and wellbeing. As a local player, we promote the regional vitality of the corporate sector in our operating region by, for example, providing companies with financing. Community wellbeing is also important: banks support in various ways the physical activities of children and adolescents, their financial literacy and diverse local associations. For your part, you are making good things happen, to yourself and to others.

As an OP customer, you can become OP cooperative bank’s owner-customer online, by calling our telephone service at 0100 0500 or by visiting an OP cooperative bank branch. If you are not OP’s customer yet, you can become an owner-customer at a bank branch.

Membership cooperative contribution

When joining us, you will pay an ordinary cooperative contribution as a one-time contribution, no other payments exist. In most banks, the amount of the membership cooperative contribution is 100 euros. You can find the amount of the membership cooperative contribution on the owner-customer application and in your OP cooperative bank.

If ever you decide to stop being an owner-customer, your membership contribution will be refunded to you in full. The cooperative contribution will be refunded after one year has lapsed from the end of the financial year during which the owner-customer membership was terminated.

Who can become an owner-customer?

Any person, entity or foundation using OP Financial Group’s services, irrespective of their nationality, can become an owner-customer.

Child as an owner-customer

A child can become an owner-customer. All guardians of the child sign together their underage child’s application for an owner-customer membership. By doing so, the parents also give their consent that their child will begin to earn OP bonuses.

If the membership contribution is paid using proceeds of the child’s own work, the child can him/herself sign the membership application and pay the membership contribution.

Owner-customer terminates the membership

The owner-customer has, at any time, the right to terminate their owner-customer membership by informing their OP cooperative bank of this in writing. The owner-customer membership termination date is the date on which the OP cooperative bank has received the termination notice.

Owner-customer is expelled

An owner-customer may also be expelled from OP cooperative bank’s membership. The expulsion criteria are defined in the bank’s rules. Such expulsion criteria may include, for example, the owner-customer’s failure to fulfil their commitments to the OP cooperative bank or causing considerable damage to the OP cooperative bank.

The Board of directors of the OP cooperative bank decides upon the expulsion of an owner-customer. An expulsion will become valid one month after the letter concerning the expulsion decision has been sent. An expelled owner-customer will immediately cease to be entitled to owner-customer benefits.

Death of owner-customer

An owner-customer membership will terminate on the death of the owner-customer. In the distribution or partition of the deceased person’s estate, the death estate can transfer the deceased person’s owner-customer membership, generally either to widow/widower or heir.
